Samaritan’s Purse Hurricane Dorian
International Relief Situation Report 3
Situation Overview
Reports indicate that as many as 13,000 homes were destroyed or severly damaged and 70,000 people were in immediate humanitarian relief.
Less than a week after landing in the Bahamas, with their first wave of relief supplies and disaster specialists, Samaritan’s Purse set up an emergency field hospital with surgical capacity that began distributing critical supplies to survivors. Because the local hospital couldn’t operate at full capacity due to the damage, the field hospital played a critical role in treating illnesses and performing major surgeries. It had an out-patient department and emergency room equipped to serve up to 100 patients daily. Their operating room–had capacity for 10 surgeries per day–and an obstetrics ward complete with a delivery room.
